The employees of the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill will be the first to receive the innovative fermented milk product being created by Arkhangelsk scientists. The cooperation agreement between the Northern State Medical University, the NArFU, the Arkhangelsk Experimental Seaweed Plant, the agricultural holding “Belosoriye” and the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill was signed in Arkhangelsk. The universities, agrarians and large companies decided to join forces for creating new healthy food products based on White Sea seaweed.

– Many recipes with addition of seaweed were developed in the last century. But far from everything could be implemented at that time. We decided to revive this work, – Alexander Grechany, Head of Department of Fundrising, Project Work and Commercialization of innovations, commented on the idea. – It is too early to say what exactly will be in the composition of the new product. But acidophilin will be taken as the basis – a fermented milk product resemling thick kefir in appearance and consistency.

– We have experience in using seaweed additives for making baked goods and other food products. But it will be a completely new product. The task set is not easy – to make it both healthy and tasty. And provided all the participants in this project have a desire to do it, we will succeed, I am sure, - Artyom Ivanov, Director General of the Arkhangelsk Experimental Seaweed Plant, said at the agreement signing ceremony.

The “Belosoriye” agricultural holding is to set up the production of the new fermented milk product. The scientists from the Northen State Medical University will carry out research to determine its effect on the body. It is NSMU that is the initiator of the idea of mass introduction of food products aiding to strengthen immune system. And the employees and the veterans of the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill will be the first to improve health with their help of the novelty product on the basis of the sanatorium-preventorium “Zhemchuzhina Severa” in Novodvinsk.

– In our preventorium we have all the conditions to establish a systematic work and to study the new product effect. In the future we are planning to purchase it for the employees of some production departments. I am sure that in the nearest future the new product will become popular not only among our employees, but among all residents of the Arkhangelsk region as well, said Dmitry Zyliov, Director General of the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill.

Other industrial enterprises of the region also showed interest in new products.
